Boise Is Booming: Micron Expands with Major New Facility and Job Growth Ahead

BOISE, Idaho — Big things are happening in Boise! Micron Technology has announced it will build a second state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication facility at its headquarters in Boise, marking a transformative moment for the region’s tech industry and economy.

This expansion is part of a nationwide investment totaling approximately $200 billion in U.S.-based chip manufacturing, a public-private effort supported by the Trump administration to boost domestic production and technological resilience. In addition to Idaho, other Micron sites in Virginia and New York will see expansion and modernization efforts.

Boise stands out in this initiative, with Micron planning to construct two high-volume chip fabs right here in the Treasure Valley. The broader project is projected to create around 90,000 direct and indirect jobs nationwide, with many expected to benefit Idahoans directly.

    Micron’s plan also includes:

    • Cutting-edge research and development
    • Advanced chip packaging facilities
    • Enhanced production capabilities in multiple states
—all focused on strengthening the U.S. tech supply chain and supporting future innovation.

Idaho Leaders React with Optimism and Support:

Senator Mike Crapo shared that this move will not only help safeguard national supply chains but also fuel innovation across Idaho.

Senator Jim Risch emphasized the strategic value of Micron’s expansion in Boise, citing its benefits to both the economy and national security.

Governor Brad Little praised the decision as a powerful endorsement of Idaho’s role in America’s high-tech future.

As more families and professionals move to Idaho, opportunities like this underscore why Boise is becoming a premier destination for business, technology, and quality of life. With Micron’s latest commitment, the region’s future looks brighter than ever.

Welcome to Boise—the next frontier of American innovation.
